RECIPE
Boil sugar, water, baking powder and lemon juice
until it spins a thread, keeping it closely covered after the sugar is dissolved
and not stirring. Pour over stiffly-beaten egg whites and beat for a few
minutes. Divide into equal parts, add fruit and nuts to one and continue beating
until stiff enough to spread. Put between layers of white cake. Beat the other
portion until stiff and ice the top and sides, decorating with whole nuts,
raisins and cut pieces of citron.
